About us

Our History

Founded in 2010, Field Compost is a family-run company set up by Chris and Joanna Field. Chris has always been passionate about compost and has been involved in the industry for over thirty years; he has a wealth of experience in the development and manufacture of compost products.

Even before Field Compost, in 2009, Chris had been working on a peat-free multipurpose blend; he understood the consequences of harvesting peat for horticultural use, and so Field Compost has been peat free since we began!

In 2012 Ben Dyson joined the company to provide technical expertise in product development allowing the company to help grow its product range. Over the last 14 years the company has grown rapidly, thriving on its high-quality products whilst combining excellent customer service.

The product manufacturing operations are run by Robin and Keith; Robin, who joined in 2014, oversees the production of our big bag and bulk orders, and keith our small bags. They ensure the products are finished and screened to a high standard with the rest of the Field Compost Team; Darron, Mark and Ash.

In February 2018 Field Compost expanded to a new office and much larger production facility, investing in a new website too. Since then, we have also grown to employ over 15 members of staff, operate 4 crane lorries and a curtainsider lorry, and deliver nationwide. In 2024 our purpose-built bagging line and palletiser arrived, allowing us to meet demand for orders. And in 2025, we upgraded our website, and announced our plastic bag recycle scheme.

We are grateful for all our staff and customers over the years, and it has been a brilliant journey watching our small business grow from strength to strength!
