Field No.21 High Quality Planting Topsoil
What is it?
A high quality blended planting topsoil that is rich in nutrients and organic matter.
What does it do?
Field No.21 has a low bulk density making it less prone to compaction and is perfect for planting larger trees and shrubs in raised beds and containers. The improved soil structure benefits root penetration and access to soil moisture and nutrients; it allows for better emergence of seedlings due to reduced crusting of the surface; and greater water infiltration, retention and availability due to improved porosity. Field No.21 is carefully blended and graded to less than 8mm ensuring that it is always a clean and consistent product.
Benefits include:
- Field No.21 is blended from a 50:50 by volume blend of high quality sandy clay loam and BSI PAS100 soil conditioner. The low bulk density makes it ideal for permanent planting schemes in pots and raised beds.
- Field No.21 contains up to 20% organic matter that will help stimulate soil life and nutrient transfer to growing plants.
- Field No.21 contains a natural supply of nutrients essential for plant growth.
Directions for use
Use Field No.21 for planting shrubs and herbaceous perennials/annuals in pots and in raised beds.
- Prepare your raised bed or planting container ensuring that there is adequate drainage.
- Calculate how much Field No.21 High Quality Planting Topsoil you need. A cubic metre is enough to cover 10m2 at a depth of 100mm. If you aren’t sure how much you need give us a call and we will do the calculations for you.
- Apply the Field No.21 to the required depth allowing an additional 15-20% for settlement.
- Once planted it is a good idea to apply a mulch such as the Field No.8 contract ornamental to a depth of 75-100mm. This will help hold moisture in the soil, suppress the growth of weeds and provide an aesthetically pleasing finish to the planted area.

For bedding turf or raising levels on planting areas we would recommend our Field No.6 Premium Grade Topsoil.

The best topsoil out there! I have a very large garden plot and was in need of good quality topsoil. I didn’t use these guys on my first load which was supposedly screened and of good quality when in fact it was full of seedlings of perennial weeds. I have now had two deliveries from Field Compost and there is absolutely no comparison in the quality. Their topsoil is dense in that it has weight to it and not just light dusty soil that blows away in the wind! It smells amazing and everything planted in it thrives. It holds moisture too and is the sort of stuff you want to sink your hands into! As a gardener I wouldn’t use anything else. Extremely friendly and helpful team too. We’ve had several deliveries of bulk soil, a dozen or more 1 tonne bags in total, over a period of 5 or 6 months from Nov 2018. Despite not being ’round the corner’, deliveries have always been made very quickly. Also, drivers have always been happy to crane the bags to where suited us best, both from the roadside onto the front garden and from/onto our drive. The product appears to be very good (no problems – new hedge growing well). Overall, an excellent company with which to do business … would recommend to anyone (and have done so).

I have used Field Compost for several years and this year, because of a gardening project, ordered from them, over several months, a total of 10 large bags of soil, compost & grit. As in previous years, the product was of uniformly excellent quality and was delivered within a time frame acceptable to me.What is particularly useful when ordering from Field Compost is that they do not deliver the soil etc on a pallet (with all the attendant problems that can cause) but use a crane on the back of the lorry to deliver the order direct into your garden.Now, that is very useful indeed.

Very Good Top Soil. I’ve had some indifferent experiences/results with other top soil deliveries in the past, especially when it hasnt been screened as well as advertised. Excellent service, excellent product. The quality of the topsoil and soil conditioner -2 tonnes/1000 litre bags – is excellent. The best I have bought. It’s made fresh to order and it was warm when I transferred it to the garden and there were no stones or lumps in it just soft dark peat free soil. Excellent service. I was telephoned and emailed when agreeing a delivery date and time. Very pleasant staff. The delivery man waited for me to move my car so he could crane the bags onto the driveway exactly where I wanted them.
